At North Star Guidance Counselling, my mission is to support student's goals,  their happiness, and to find the best fit for their future. I do this by understanding their academic progress, values, and  what they love to do.

I have a holistic approach to academic counselling and university planning. We can start this at any stage and readjust along the way. Traditionally, people think that success is a linear pathway but more recent information demonstrates that it often is not and the exploration along the way can shed insight into our goals and what brings us happiness.

The work we can do together includes planning their academics throughout high school; choosing extra curricular activities and volunteer opportunities that meet their goals;  university and college applications; and personal counselling.

My philosophy for post-secondary counselling is best fit. Research suggests that a student's happiness is the best indicator of success and so ensuring that your student's values and goals ailgn with the program and school is of utmost importance in this process. Best fit is not about reputation but instead takes the student's values, goals, and strengths into consideration when figuring out the school that fits them best!

I have an intrinsic ability to connect with people. And a unique ability to put people at ease. This allows students to feel safe with me and open up within a very short period of time. This occurs because they know that they are in control of our relationship and we move at a pace that is right for them. I do not try to control and in fact give over the control to the student so that they feel safe.

In this work I centre the student and their goals while recognizing that parents and adults in their life are hugely important. I am able to maintain this balance with ease. Understanding that parents and important adults have supported the student before and after I am here. I think we can find an approach that centres the student while ensuring all voices and perspectives are heard and valued.

I am always honoured to be a part of this process and journey and will be there every step of the way.

I've been a guidance and university & college counsellor for over 12 years in some of the most prestigious independent schools in Canada.  I have received exceptional training including attending a week long college counseling course from Harvard, I've travelled extensively to visit universities and colleges including  to the the United Kingdom to visit Imperial College London, UCL, LSE, King's College, St. Andrews, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow among others. I have visited many U.S schools including UC Berkley, UCLA, Stanford, Harvard, Boston College, Boston University, MIT, NYU, Harvey Mudd, Claremont McKenna, among others. I of course have travelled extensively throughout Canada and visited most of the schools in Ontario, BC, and McGill. I have not visited the Eastcoast schools yet but absolutely love them!

My education background - I received my Bachelor's of Arts degree from Queen's University in Geography and History; my Master's of Arts degree in Geography from Wilfrid Laurier University; my Bachelor's of Education degree from Lakehead University; and I am currently pursuing my Doctor of Education at Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, the University of Toronto.

In my personal life I love to laugh,  to travel, and explore the world. I took a year off from work and travelled to New Zealand and Australia to hike and camp - it was a wild experience! And went to Nevada, Utah, and California and white water rafted down the Grand Canyon. I live in Toronto with my pup Sparkles and love the culture and experience this city brings!
